Dog Friendly Holiday is a Dog Thief's Paradise

The Best Dog Friendly Holiday is when you return home with your Dog.

Staycation or Holiday

The word Staycation to any loving dog owner is simply translated as a UK Holiday.

Since early 2021 a GB (England, Wales & Scotland) pet passports is no longer valid for travel to an EU country or Northern Ireland which means even more Dog Staycations.

The good news is there is a vast choice of holiday destinations and types, simply type in “ best uk holiday for dogs in UK ” and google provides about 323,000,000 results.

From Dog friendly cottages to dog friendly hotels, B&B’s, even Airbnb has a dedicated page to find Pet-Friendly stays in the UK https://www.airbnb.co.uk/d/pet-friendly.

Nobody takes their dog on holiday and then leaves them at the holiday home / house, we all want to spend quality time together so what is better than doing what dogs love doing most; being outdoors with their family, getting lots of attention, pats and having fun.

Planning your days out

Making the most of any dog holiday takes planning, not just taking enough dog food, treats, favourite toys, but also making sure the days and nights are planned and there are enough pet friendly restaurants, pet friendly pubs or even beaches and parks that allow dogs.

There are some great Apps and even a simple Google search for “Dog friendly restaurants near me” will give plenty of choices and planning can be done daily or on the fly.

Wish you were here We have all experienced some great dog friendly holiday destinations, where the majority of businesses are dog friendly , the most obvious signal a place is dog friendly is when there is a bowel of water outside.

I wish the local businesses near me had the same attitude towards dogs, I am certain they would attract more customers and generate more income. It’s easy for any café, restaurant or retailer to see how to become dog friendly successfully by visiting any one of the top ten dog-friendly UK destinations closest to them.

Holiday Crime Hotspot

Being in an unfamiliar place comes with its own hazards and risks, for example we do not know local crime hotspots to avoid, a helpful tool is https://www.police.uk/ with its easy search tool, you enter the town, and it provides crime data and interactive maps of areas you can plan to avoid.

Avoiding local crime areas is one thing, but avoiding an opportunistic dog thief is harder, remember they do not have horns or wear a balaclava, although, given recent events most people are wearing a mask and do not look out of place, they look like us, they also go on holiday and may even own a dog (remember Hitler liked and owned dogs and was a vegetarian).

It’s the times when we are caught out, needing to go to the toilet, this could be in a dog friendly restaurant, a pub that allows dogs, especially one with a beer garden, or even a public toilet at the beach, park or nature trial. Currently taking a dog into the toilet doesn’t work so we tend to leave them tethered for a couple of minutes, praying they will still be there when we return.

Dog Friendly Holiday! A dog thief’s paradise

Armed with a tasty dog treat, or a stroke of a dog’s head and within 10 seconds an opportunist dog napper can unhitch a dog leash and walk off with our dog and no one would notice or bat an eyelid.

The stress and pain we would go through is too hard to imagine and we would definitely remember it as the nightmare holiday from hell. It’s not the replacement cost of our dog, although the reason why its stolen is because its easy to sell and worth hundreds if not thousands of pounds.

Reading this, there may be some dog owners who say they would never leave their dog unattended or tethered outside somewhere. In a perfect and ideal World we would never need to, but the strange thing about life is, we never know what will happen or when it will happen, that’s why we all take out insurance.

Insure against the unexpected The DOGTIE Dog Lock can also be seen as a just-in -case affordable insurance policy. It’s a visible deterrent that can’t be easily cut and a thief attempting to use large bolt cutters would be certainly noticed.

Whilst no-one would wish any dog to be being taken or stolen, (given the choice we would rather a thief take someone else’s dog rather than ours) an opportunistic dog thief will choose the path of least resistance.

Remember our holiday motto:

The Best Dog Friendly Holiday is when you return home with your Dog!
